No.80 Calbayog Street Corner Malinao Mandaluyong City
Galileo Enoteca Deli and Restaurant was birthed out of a love for sharing Italy’s finest wines and wine-appreciative culture as can be seen in its enotecas.
Enoteca is an Italian word which means “wine-library” or a place where one ideally finds an wide showcase of wine varieties (being produced in a certain region), available for tasting and often served with simple, rustic food to complement it.
With a desire to bring wines from Italy where he migrated from, Gaetano Vitrano embarked on an adventure that began in year 2000 with the founding of Galileo Trading and Services. Galileo imported wines and gourmet foods from Italy and distributed them at highly affordable prices out of a desire to allow more people to enjoy quality Italian wines and “pica pica.” Not long after it started, Galileo also began supplying to most Italian restaurants and other Mediterranean food establishments in Manila.
Then in 2003, Galileo opened a store in Sanggumay, Mandaluyong City, finally making Galileo more visible to potential customers. This store easily became a well-loved, cozy little place where Italian and Filipino faces (or Gaetano’s family members) served wine, and later on some cold cuts, cheeses and other delicatessen. At this point, there came a growing demand for dishes to go with the wines!
Finally, Galileo Enoteca Deli transferred to Calbayog Street in Mandaluyong City in 2004, this time with a full menu of Italian cuisine served with its trademark quality wines and delicatessen to match. Gaetano’s daughter, Vanessa, helped her aunt Wilma Valbuena manage the business. While Chef Ely, Vanessa’s other aunt, was in full charge of concocting the flavorful dishes.
In January 2012, another branch was opened in Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City.
When Galileo started, it did not really foresee that its simple import business would evolve into such a unique blend of services that provides a unique taste of Italian culture. The family behind the business, believes that Galileo’s success was a blessing that can only come by God’s grace and goodness.
